medium length documentary, 2020
All Eyes on you is a medium length documentary, directed by Michaela Kobsa-Mark, edited by Roman Brauch and shot by Sebastian Ganschow.
The film explores the topic of the use of artificial intelligence in CCTV surveillance. What does the camera see, and what is really happening in the streets. Mannheim, commonly known as one of the more dangerous cities in it’s area, is the first German city that experiments with this techniques and more than 60 new cameras all over the city center. But what are the real problems of the citizens, and does being watched all the time really help?
Thanks to the support of CineGate Rental, we were able to shoot the whole documentary on a 10mm Ultrawideangle-Lens. This mimicked the aesthetic of a CCTV camera, while staying aesthetic and flexible, without fisheye distortions. It proved to be quite a challenge, as the camera sometimes had to go unusually close to the people we met, to get proper closeups. But this also turned out to be a very immersive factor, as well as highlighting the irony of filming a documentary about people on the street being surveilled by cameras.
